Had never tried Minka-Aire fans, but decided to try the big "barn" style for my sunroom last year. Liked it a lot, works and looks great. Smooth as silk, pushes LOTS of air, and excellent light. Have gotten a lot of compliments about the "big" style fan with lots of blades. So, I decided to try this odd-looking one on a lark -- figured I could return if I didn't like it. The result:
Wow, have I been impressed!!! Ordered this several months ago for my dedicated home-theater, and had my electrician assemble and install -- (he did say it was a bit more work to carefully understand how the blades go in opposite direction and the big/outer ones loop from top to bottom) -- but once it was installed, EVERYONE who sees it says it's the coolest most amazing fan they've seen. My GF lies underneath it and is totally mesmerized by its motion, especially on the lowest speed. VERY relaxing!
Also love the way these Minka-Aire fans have 6 speeds and reverse, and dimmable light settings all from the remote. Only odd thing another reviewer pointed out that I've found to be true -- there is a few second "delay" from the remote to the control unit in the fan, so you have to push the button and hold it for a half-second, and then wait. And then the blades start off very slowly, almost like they're not sure which way to go at first, but then everything works fine a second or two later. It's just not the instant on/off of a light switch is all. Also the dimmable light cycles through dim-to-bright in steps so you have to time the release of your finger from the button really carefully to hit full max-on or full minimum/dim. Takes getting used to.
So, the remote is a bit quirky (found to be true for both fans, same style remote), but that's my ONLY complaint, and certainly not enough to lose a star. Really, this moves GREAT air, but the design is truly different from any and all other fans I've ever seen out there, and I'm not kidding when I say the photos and videos are inadequate (which is why I didn't bother to post any) ... it truly looks both beautiful and amazing. The longer I have it, the more I love it, and everyone says the same thing. Try it, you won't be disappointed. You can always find something cheaper, but for a few extra bucks, this is the coolest fan ever! My favorite, without question, after more than five decades of using ceiling fans everywhere I've lived and traveled.
