Very good modern-looking looking fan with traditional chains so it works with wall controls
All rooms in my house are wired with wall switches for ceiling fan speed and light controls, which I much prefer to use vs sticking some battery-using remote control caddy to my walls which it seems most fan makers are moving towards if you don't seek out the kind with pull chains. The rub is that most with chains are extremely dated looking styles. I was happy to find the Lun-Aire that has a sleeker more modern look than most. Works well in my office that always needs a bit of extra cooling in the summer as it faces the Texas afternoon sun. It's totally silent up to about 70% speed when it starts making a low buzz with a very slight wobble, but that's as fast as I really want it to go anyway, as it puts out a lot of airflow even at that speed. It got a bit better when I went around and tightened the screws a tad more but if it continues to be an issue, I bet a balancing kit would do the trick. Not enough to take off a star, but is an area it could be a bit better (though in my experience most fans will do this to varying degrees if cranked up to max speed) Installation was fairly painless and I was able to do it with a ladder solo. A word of caution, they do want you to stick to their brand of dimmer switches or it voids your warranty. Also, I think you also need to stick with Minka-Aire branded downrods (I wanted a longer 18" silver one vs the shorter white tube the prior contractor-grade fan had anyway)

    I had five inexpensive Hunter ceiling fans in my house that I have replaced one-by-one over the years. The only reason I replaced these quiet, great quality fans was because of their dated, gold brass look. Even though the replacement fans look better than the old ones, they all hum and are not as powerful. Since this Minka-Aire fan is the most expensive ceiling fan I've ever bought, I thought it might have the quality of the old fans. No such luck, this one hums and creeks at all speeds. The reseller was nice enough to replace the first one I received thinking it was defective. However, the replacement was exactly the same. If it were up to me I'd send this back for a refund, but my wife likes the look of this fan and I'm afraid anything else I buy would also be junk. It's just the way things are built these days. If you can live with the humming and creeks, buy this fan for its looks.

    The fan seems nice and well packaged. No assembly instructions were included and the installation instructions are pretty difficult to understand. I ordered a collection from Minka Lavery so the lights in my house would all match and the instructions for each light were VERY poor. If I wasn't familiar with putting new lights in, I don't think I would have been able to install any of them. Once they are installed though, they look nice and are functional, but nothing overly special.
