This fan is gorgeous. Although the blades look a little bit cheap when they were first pulled from the box, they look great once installed up on the ceiling. I saw the distressed koa one in the showroom, and it also looked great but would have been too dark for the room we wanted to install it in. I did not see the brushed nickel model in person so were hoping for the best when I ordered it through Amazon. The store did not have the brushed nickel in stock and it would have taken too long for them to ship it. The prices were exactly the same, so Amazon's fast shipping won this order.
I have this fan installed in a room that is 13'x14' with an 8' ceiling. Because of the low ceiling, the fan must be no more than 12" high. Who knew it would have been so hard to find such a fan with a remote control? Although the Minka-Aire comes with 3.5" and 6" downrods, they were not needed. Without those downrod extensions, the fan is 9" from the ceiling to the bottom of the LED light.
Installation seemed to be pretty straightforward. The person who installed the fan did not have any problems with installation or with linking the remote control to the receiver. There are 6 speed settings on the remote control with a button to reverse the blade direction from hot to cold seasons. However, the two highest settings (5 and 6) seem WAY too strong. At the 5 and 6 settings, the fan seems to shake a little, so this may or may not be a problem for others. Since I think I will mostly use the first three settings, this should not be a problem. The fan is very quiet even at the highest setting. The remote control itself is not difficult to figure out. Pressing a speed setting turns on the fan to that setting. There is an off button in the center of the speed settings and a reverse flow button to reverse the direction of the blades. The only "trick" is that pressing either the top two buttons (for the LED light) will turn the light on and off and if you press and hold one of those buttons, the light will dim (or brighten). There is a wall mount for the remote control.
The LED light itself provides adequate light but is not bright enough if you need bright lights (e.g., for a home office). Luckily there are other light sources in the room, so the LED light is fine for most other purposes. Note that this room is quite dark, so that might have added to the problem.
This fan has only been installed for a few months during the winter, so I don't yet know how it will hold up during the summer and over time. So far, with limited use, there have not been any problems with the fan and it looks great. I hope to better enjoy the use of this fan when it gets warmer.
