Like everyone else has mentioned, the lack of a template hurts the installation speed. I knew this going in and put together a plaque with a ledger, traced all the numbers once I found the desired spacing and then simply transfered the plaque to a level line on the wall. Easy peasy. Any boo-boos on the template dry fit can be noted and corrected on the install. Drill size for the studs is 9/64 for the stand-off look, which, in my opinion is the only reason you'd buy this particular number. Quality is very nice considering 4-1/2" architectural numbers are seemingly not as prevalent as the 5" and 6".
