It would have been great if it would have worked on my particular model.

I've had this device for a 6 months now and it has been very frustrating to deal with. When you can get it connected to your wifi, it works as expected. Problem is, if it disconnects from wifi for any reason or even for no reason, getting it back connected is a nightmare. I contacted support the first couple times it happened, followed all there troubleshooting steps and maybe, after repeating the same steps to add the device back to wifi 15-20 times, you may get it to connect to wifi, only to disconnect after a day or maybe a week or even a month, until it disconnects again.

Currently, I have not been able to get it to reconnect, after repeating the process more than 50 times over the past week. I have a tech background and I know my wifi is configured correctly, with an access point 20 feet away line of site, other devices connect no issues. In conclusion, this device is highly unreliable and in my experience a piece of junk. I'd send it back but it was installed by an electrician who installed my fan and removing it will cost me more than it's worth.

Seems Fanimation has a few different versions of this type of WiFi controller. I have a Fanimation AireDrop ceiling fan/light that this model (WFR50) did not work with due to the CCT light kit (I’m not positive, but I believe that designation refers to a light kit that allows you to change the color temperature). It took me some time to research and figure out the issue but seems this particular light kit requires a WFR55 controller. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing Amazon does not carry that particular model, so I had to purchase it from Lowe’s. Once I secured the correct model for my particular fan/light everything seems to be working fine including both the remote control features and the Wi-Fi/smart home features. I’m assuming this WFR50 would work fine if it is compatible with your particular light kit. Just be sure to double check the compatibility, possibly on Fanimation’s own website, before purchasing to save yourself the headache.

These are fairly easy to install -- same as any other remote module for ceiling fans. I had no trouble installing them into a few Hunter fans around my house. They also have a good feature set, i.e. light dimming, 3 fan speeds, and reverse rotation (if your fan can reverse rotation via a remote, not just a switch). Some catches are the native FanSync software is *horrible*. Check out the reviews on App Store and Play store, so many people have issues with it. The app constantly says it is losing connection to the fans. On first setup it will also have you update the software 3-5 times, because it upgrades incrementally. This process can take 30-45 minutes resulting in a very bad first user experience. The good news is that it works flawlessly through Alexa once you setup the skill. Clearly it's not really losing connection because Alexa can still control the fan speeds and turn on/off and dim the lights correctly. If not for the great Alexa integration, I would have returned these right away because the native app is almost useless. This is also a pricey product, I would only get these on sale or if you just need to upgrade a couple fans. If you want to enable more than a fan or two, it might be more economical to get a universal RF module for each fan and buy a single BOND hub to control all of them -- although I hear the BOND hub doesn't handle light dimming through Alexa.

It's nice to be able schedule fan on/off times, but other than that it's more novel than anything. Not worth the money considering it only lasted 3 years before kicking the bucket.

I thought it was just the controller, but it included a receiver that I currently don't have a use for.

I’m revising my earlier two star rating. Who cares if it’s easy to install if it has to be reset at least weekly. Now the app won’t even sync with the fan. It’s a glorified, ugly, expensive waste of space. Please save your money. When it does work, it’s not really that great even connected to Alexa.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly but….
Reviewed in Canada on January 5, 2024
I installed the unit yesterday. If you have a “close to ceiling” kit installed just be aware that it’s a bit more work to install than if you just have a fan installed with the regular hanging kit.
My only problem is that now that it’s installed and working with my phone and with Alexa (perfectly, I might add) I cannot get my remote to work. I have tried everything and made sure the DIP switches match on both units. I think perhaps my remote is not compatible with this receiver. I think it should come with a remote for this price. It’s very expensive and I am happy I got it on sale. I would recommend this unit.
