We are remodeling our covered patio; had a new drywall ceiling installed along with electrical with the intent of installing patio heaters, can lighting, and a ceiling fan. The installed ceiling has a bit of a slope so we needed a fan that provided a tight fit for the limited headroom yet could accommodate a slight pitch. We wanted something we could control with Alexa and reverse without having to flip a switch on the fan. We did not need a light kit for this fan as our new lighting install will take care of that issue. Turned out that the fan design we liked the best that checked all the blocks was the Fanimation GlideAire in black. The fan listed for ~$380 new but while shopping I noted that "Amazon Warehouse Deals" had a used customer return for $195, saving us just shy of $200. Amazon Warehouse guarantees that what you get will perform as new or you can return it; $200 savings was worth it.
When the fan arrived it all seemed to be intact with all the pieces. I installed it, tested it with the remote, everything worked until I got to the point where you install and control the fan with the mobile device app. The fan works the same as most wifi-controlled gizmos: it broadcasts a temporary wifi network you join for a moment in order to give it the credentials for your home wifi. The device would not create that network. Rather than box it back up and return it, I called Fanimation support. It took maybe 10 minutes on the phone to diagnose the issue and the phone rep got all my info and said he would ship a replacement control unit. It arrived today, I installed it and it worked perfectly. I now can control the fan with my phone and Alexa with no need to worry about a lost remote floating about.
In operation the fan makes zero detectable motor noise, all you hear are the blades turning. It is damp-rated, perfect for our covered patio application and we are very happy with it, not to mention the excellent support we got from Fanimation. I recommend Fanimation and will look at their fans first should we decide to replace any of our others.
