    These steps arrived today. The star count pretty well indicates my level of satisfaction.

    Here is why and in the order of awareness that I think I chose well:

    Cardboard box, no biggy ... But...The stairs came packed in six slabs of styrofoam. There was no chance of a wiggle or wobble and nothing much less than a dock worker's hook had a chance of damaging the steps.

    Within that protection there was the standard foam wrapping sheets stopping any abrasion caused by the slabs of foam.

    Next, having dropped about seven veils and being tugged from the box, the steps just stood there looking great,

    Previous buyers have expressed unhappiness with the stairs not being the color they wanted or not being distressed. About the latter, they were right: aside from the middle being lighter in tone (from wear?) there are some painted lines of black suggesting distress but nobody has whacked the steps with chains or claw hammers. But or so, I'm jake with that shortcoming. Color is always a matter of taste but the steps match the image and looks great with our bedroom which pretty much is the dark oak of Stickley style knock offs.

    There are two virtues not touched in the other reviews. That full and deep bottom step offers a lot more stability than the other designs which offer either not as much depth or offer storage but with steps only half as deep.

    The second virtue is weight. It is light enough to be picked up and moved easily.

    An idea: I'm going to add two more safety features. I found an invisible anti-slip spray I'm going to use and I found an open weave shelf liner that pretty much looks like the non-skid mats used beneath area rugs.

    If you have a frail partner and just bought one of those mile high mattress and foundation sets, these steps are a good choice.
