The Slipcovered Headboard is constructed with a sturdy wood frame that is padded for maximum comfort, making it solid yet cozy. But what makes it truly unique is the removable tailored slipcover! I purchased the Avanti White simply because it was the cheapest of all the colors. I made my own slipcover to coordinate with my current bedding and drapes so the color was not an issue. After reading the only comment on this style headboard about needing more padding I purchased 1" high density foam prior to delivery, Applied it to the front of the headboard with spray adhesive then slipped the padding over the foam. Final result... I love it !!!
My purchase price was $103 much lower than the current price...

In concept this should work well, in practice it did not.
The headboard arrives and you have to slide on a cover made of padding which is a little trick to do over the raw wood, but not impossible. Then I unpack the white faux leather slip cover, which is folder about 3-4 times, and stuffed into a plastic bag, which means it has not only the large creases but lots of small ones to. Inititally I wasnt concerned as I though once I had put it onto the headboard the padding would fill out the slip cover, heres the problem is does not.
The padding is not thick enough so the cover just hangs over the headboard, the corners are not padded and just hang, the piping that is around the end of the headboard isn't flush with the sides so you end up with a floppy creased headboard instead of the crisp well padded headboard shown on Amazon. I would guess that 99% of people could create better if they made one from scratch. Today I will be buying more padding to try and fill the thing out and ironing the cover to see if I can get this to look the part.

I arrived home from the gym to find a huge box at my door. Good thing I have been going to the gym because it took every bit of muscle I had to get it through the door. It is HEAVY! It is also well packaged. It took quite an effort to get it out of the box. I'm glad tomorrow is trash day!

When I finally got everything out, I felt like I had purchased one of those meal boxes where they send you the ingredients and you have to cook it, hoping you don't mess up. The "ingredients" in this box were 2 panels for the frame, 2 stabilizer bars, 1 dowel pin, 8 screws described as "flat head", but they needed an allen wrench, which was included. There are also 4 bed frame screws, 4 washers, and 4 nuts for attaching it to the bed frame. Then there is the padded cover, the foot glides, and foot board stickers. Mine included a cover, but the directions say that it is sold separately. It took me awhile and some hunting to find the directions. They were on the side of the padding that was not facing me!

I did manage to get the box in the house, unpack the box, and relocate all of the pieces to the room where the head board was going to be used. It isn't a very large room, so I decided to assemble it on the bed. To help you avoid some of my mistakes, I placed it on the bed where, if I stood at the foot of the bed, I would be looking at the front of the head board with the bottom closest to me. If I were to do it again, I would orient it so it was face down and the bottom of the headboard near the head of the bed. This way, when it has been assembled, you can lift it up and slide it into place.

I knew I was in trouble when the first piece of instructions said, "It is best if you assemble your Headboard with two people." I was on my own at this point. I managed to get the dowel into place to hold the 2 frame panels together. I pushed it into a wall to get it to go in. Next came the stabilizer bars, on at the top and one at the bottom. They needed 4 screws. There is an indention around each and this needs to face out. I thought it would be easiest to put the 2 on the ends in first. I was wrong. You can't see to line up the middle 2. I got the end ones in and a 3rd one most of the way in. Could not line up the 4th to save my life. I decided to do the one on the top. This time, I started with the middle 2. It was a tiny bit easier to line up the outer ones this way because you could pull out the bar just a bit. It still wasn't easy. Once I had all four in place on the top, I was able to return to the bottom and put the missing one in and screw the other one the rest of the way in. Since an allen wrench was used instead of a regular screwdriver, the arthritis in my thumbs was really complaining at this point. Then came the challenge of putting it into place at the head of the bed - see above for my suggestions there. I managed to do all of this by myself (be aware that I am 65 years old).

I thought the rest would be easy - just slip the padding into place and then put the cover on. apparently, this is where you need 2 people. This is like putting a giant pillow case on a pillow. The padding is exactly the same size as the board. You need to be able to put both sides on at the same time and one person cannot do that. I guess mine will have to wait until my daughter arrives for a visit. Fortunately, that will be soon.

I know some like to know where an item is manufactured. The instructions have a Carol Stream, IL address, but the frame had Made in China stamped on it. Good luck putting yours together. I think I will go with ones already assembled in the future.

This headboard arrived in a huge very well protected box in perfect condition. Some assembly is required but it is not complicated. My main recommendation regarding assembly is that you have some help. You can assemble it yourself acting alone, but it makes assembly difficult and it is better not to take the risk of injury. With a helper I was able to assemble this in about 20 minutes or less.

The product comes with all bolts needed. With 2 exceptions they are hex head bolts and an Allen wrench is included with the package. The 2 exceptions require a standard Phillips screwdriver and perhaps a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench, not included but common in most homes. An instruction sheet is included and is very easy to understand so far as it goes.

One matter that caused me some minor frustration is the padding that is fitted over the headboard once it is assembled. The padding is a very close fit so you must be careful installing it. There is a cloth side to the padding and a plastic mesh like side. Make sure you turn the padding inside out if needed so that the cloth side is facing outside and the plastic mesh side is facing in. Otherwise installation of the padding will be more difficult and you may rip it (the cloth side). The instructions do not clearly state which side of the padding faces in and out and I wish that were corrected. At first, not paying close attention, I just assumed the padding was the same on both sides. It is not.

I had no problems at all with holes and bolts matching up. All matched up well. What I recommend during assembly is that you not tighten up the bolts until all have been lined up and started in the threads.

Once the board is assembled and the padding installed you simply slip on the cover (mine is sand color) and you are ready to hook on your full or queen size bed rails. Full size rails are bolted to the inside holes in the legs, queen size rails are bolted to the outside holes in the legs. Lay on your box springs and mattress and you are done except for making the bed.

All things considered I am very pleased with this headboard. 4 stars. I deducted 1 star because (1) the price seems a bit high at $484 (current price listed as of date of this review); (2) the wood is not solid but appears well reinforced. Just do not be standing on it; and (3) the instructions could have been a little more clear about which side of the padding faces out. If I needed another headboard I would certainly consider buying this brand and product. I might however wait for a sale. I do recommend.
