I had an old early 20th century art glass lamp made by one of Tiffany's competitors. So after reading the reviews I just wasn't sure I wanted to risk buying these lamps, but I bought one and as soon as it arrived I bought another and I am extremely pleased with them both.
Are these lamps just like the antique lamps I've had before? No, but I'm betting that the difference in materials make them more break resistant. One of the lamps I had was knocked over and two panels broke beyond repair. In another incident metal fatigue was a problem and a decorative bronze vine broke when cleaning. I can't say for sure but I doubt this would happen with these lamps.
What some people call defects are what you would expect in a hand cut glass shade, though a very few of the pieces are irregular in shape, it is what you would expect in a lamp shade of that period. The glass feels thick enough to take normal wear and tear and might be coated, and the base is heavy enough to balance the lamp. The pull chains do not feel cheap, and the light that comes through the glass is pleasing.
Over all, the lamps work well in my living room and people have commented on their looks. They look and feel like very good quality at a great price. The shipping was fast and the packaging was enough to protect them from the holiday casualty list.
