When we purchased the home 6yrs ago the family room came with a standard semi sphere ceiling 3 bulb fixture. My wife has complained all this time that fixture did not give out enough light so that she could read. After installing this track light she has plenty of light to read. She's happy and I'm a hero.
We aim one light down to her chair and one light toward the fireplace. The third light we left without a bulb to save energy.
Easy to install. Took less than one hour.
We use CFL R30 bulbs. They take a few minutes to reach maximum brightness but end up giving off a lot of light focused in the direction we want. The bullet cylinders provide good ventilation for the CFLs. If you use CFLs without good air cooling (e.g. in fully enclosed fixtures) they will not last long.
We should have made the switch years ago. We are very happy.
