While this light fixture looks very nice once installed, the process of installation is annoyingly difficult, as reported by several others. Moreover, the provided instructions are insufficient in identifying how to properly wire up the fixture. A few helpful tips: the lead on the brown supply wire with ribs is to be connected with the white wire in the ceiling junction box, and the smooth lead on the brown supply wire is to be connected with the black wire in the ceiling junction box. This is the convention used to ensure that the white or neutral wire is connected to the threaded base of the light bulb, and the black or hot wire connects to the tip of the light bulb. Also as another review noted, there is an excessive length of wire provided which is so long that it cannot be stuffed into the ceiling junction box, so don't be afraid to cut that off and leave a lead of only 10 or so inches, provided you have a wire stripping tool to strip the newly cut end. Regarding the mounting plate, the screws the protrude down from the rectangular plate need to be the correct length such that the spherical nuts can screw on far enough to pull the fixture up to the ceiling when mounting it. As received, the screws are fully inserted through the rectangular bracket, and if the ceiling junction box is flush with the ceiling, they will protrude down so far that the spherical nuts won't pull the fixture up to the ceiling. If this happens, you need to loosen the lock nuts on the screws, then grab the side of the screw with needle-nosed pliers and screw them in so they don't protrude so far, and then re-tighten the lock nuts. Considering this process, it's best to test this part of the installation before connecting the wiring (because the likelihood of needing to adjust the screws is very high). One last helpful tip: if you find that it is difficult to screw on one of the spherical nuts because it is too close to one of the three decorative brackets, realize that you can rotate the fixture slightly on the base to give yourself more room to install the spherical nut. Overall it's feasible for an experienced DIYer to get this fixture properly installed and looking good, but only with extreme effort. If you are not up for the task, choose a different fixture that's easier to install.
