This mechanical plug is inexpensive but effective. Unlike some of the other mechanical plugs, this one has a larger surface area to contact the sides of the pipe. In my situation, the three inch pipe was corroded and worn down. The ones sold in the local stores did not have enough rubber to make a solid seal against the pipe. This mechanical plug did. In addition, the Jones Stephens Corporation T31003 Economy 3-Inch Test Plug has a smaller bottom plate that easily slides into the pipe. The only drawback with this item is the wingnut. Replace the cheap wingnut with a better quality wingnut. Also, do not bother buying the other mechanical plugs sold at the local stores. This is the one you want.
