It works better than it’s expected when used with electric corded drill.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2023Bought this item after looking at it on a YouTube video. I am a DIYer so I practiced on a old PVC joint before using, which helped figure out exactly how to use it. Gotta say, it was well worth the money, and very easy to use. I was surprised how sturdy the tool is - especially for the price. If you have to reuse a joint this tool works great at cleaning out the existing pipe. The only issue, it did not fit my regular go to drill as the stem was too large for it, and had to use my 1/2" power drill. This is the reason for the 4 stars on ease of use, as I am glad I had the larger drill.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019I am doing a renovation of one of our bathrooms which has double sinks. I was worried when the new vanity drains didn't line up with the old p-traps. I thought for sure I would have to call in the professionals to get the plumber redone. I found out about the Ram Bit from watching some YouTube videos. I was happy to see this bad boy on Amazon and could get it in 2 days... It looked easy enough to do, so I thought I would give it a try. I am so happy I did! This bit is well designed and did the job for me! Just line up the bit at the cut off pipe and bore out the fitting so you can slide a new pipe in. I used some one step glue and pieced everything together. Now I have 2 amazing new vanities and no leaks! Highly recommend this if you need to change plumbing and don't have a stub out or threaded connection to work with.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2015I bought this item to replace an old one that just wasn't cutting like it is supposed to. I work in a metal plating facility and we have miles of schedule 80 pipe and fittings, the majority being inch and a half pipe. Don't even think about using this with your battery powered hand drill, it's too difficult to hold a fitting and the drill steady. The best way I have found is to use a drill press and a large drill press vise or a large pair of channel locks. When beginning to bore out some old pipe out of a fitting, you really have to lean on it to get the bit started, but once the bit goes beyond the first disk and the cutting part of the disk enters the fitting it starts to cut the old pipe into ribbons that wrap around the bit. Turn the drill press off, lift the bit out of the fitting and remove the shaved out PVC pipe from the bit. Turn the drill press back on, lower the bit into the fitting and cut the remainder of the old pipe out of the fitting. It does do a fairly good job of removing the old pipe from the fitting, however, the only drawback would have to be that when you want to reuse the fitting, the pipe fits a bit loose into the fitting. Just make sure you clean out any loose frays inside the fitting, use plenty of primer and glue and make sure you give the glued pipe and fitting is given plenty of time to set and cure otherwise the joint will fail, count on it. If your patient you should have not trouble. I gave 4 stars because of how much pressure is needed to get the bit started, other than that it's a good product.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2024This thing really did the trick. It doesn’t make it smooth inside, but it gets the old pipe out saving time getting fittings and redoing everything. I just had to cut the shaft off to shorten it so I could get the drill and bit in between the fittings that I needed to clean the old pipe out of.The media could not be loaded.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2020Worked great. Saved a ton of work. Remodeling bathroom, had double sink vanity that installing plumbers had to offset the plumbing to match sink and rough-in. New cabinets will be separate and used this to get back to original rough-in condition of the drain without damaging the wall.
Note on operation, cut pipe as close to the fitting as possible without cutting fitting. Use drill on high speed. First drain went with slow speed and took a little effort. On second drain, I put drill on high speed and this cutter went through old pipe like a hot knife through butter, so be careful, keep your drill level, check your progress frequently so you do not to go too far.
The value of the work and fittings eliminate by cutting the old pipe out of the socket was far greater than the cost of this tool. If you are planning a remodel with new cabinets...Get one its worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2016I used this socket saver (1 & 1/2" size) for the first time while replacing a vanity and sink for a customer. The new vanity was much larger and had two drawers on the right side. As usual, the top drawer was in the way of the stub out. Normally, I would cut a large hole into the drywall, cut the pvc pipe, and marry on a new piece of pvc and stub out to a different location. I reamed out the 45 degree fitting with the socket saver and a cordless drill without much effort. I then glued (used lots of glue) in a new street stub out, and hooked up the sink trap. I could not have accomplished this job easily without the Socket Saver. The price on Amazon Prime is the lowest anywhere, and who can beat free shipping and no sales tax.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2023Leaves a pretty rough surface. I had to use this to tie into an existing fitting where my pool suction line exits the slab. Didn’t have enough room to cut off and glue in a new fitting. Used some JB Water Weld epoxy to join the new pipe to the fitting and bridge the sloppy fit. Would never rely on PVC cement alone with this loose fit. If you’re going to try it on something critical, practice on a few junk fittings first. Definitely don’t see this as saving me money by reusing fittings, but it did keep me from having to bust up the slab, so that’s well worth the cost.

easier-workReviewed in Canada on December 11, 20235.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I've seen other tools like this that look much fancier and cost more- this one looks almost like a cheap paint mixer. I'm not a plumber and only needed to bore out one ABS waste pipe so I tried this. It worked perfectly and only took a few seconds. Great product and if I ever need a different size in the future I'll buy this brand.
Ryan phelpsReviewed in the United Kingdom on May 13, 20231.0 out of 5 stars Doesn’t work on 40mm / 1” 1/2 uk waste pipe
It does not work on 1” 1/2 waste pipe as described in the uk, waste of £30….
A SCOTT MCMILLANReviewed in Canada on October 4, 20235.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bit socket to have.
I used this Ram Bit Socket as soon as it arrived. Very favourably impressed. It worked marvellously and drilled out the existing glued in ABS pipe. I would highly recommend this Ram Bit Socket as it was easy to use doing a great job allowing me to fit in a 1 1/2 inch ABS pipe without any difficulty. AAA+++
Dave Pang.Reviewed in Canada on October 19, 20244.0 out of 5 stars Works quite well.
Its good to have a part of your tool collection. There were a number of times I had to use the original connectors because going to the store for new connectors isn't possible. Just cut the old pipe closest to the connector rim as much you can and definitely use slow speed on your drill.
