Ideal for testing my black pipe propane distribution in my cabin

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2019I read some bad reviews on this product where either the schrader valve leaked or the pressure gauge leaked at the threads. The Honeywell G64-030 pressure test gauge I received had both the valve and the pressure gauge threads sealed with what appears to be epoxy. I'm guessing the manufacturer had too many returns and fixed the issue. Thus, I had no problems with leaks.
I did have a leak in my propane piping system due to improperly manufactured elbows (the pipe bottomed out before the threads sealed), forcing me to buy the elbows from another manufacturer and completely disassemble and reassemble the entire system (growl!).
This was the very reason I purchased this pressure test gauge. I wanted to make sure my propane piping would hold pressure before the inspector discovered it didn't and would charge me for a re-inspection. Now I have confidence that it will pass inspection and confidence there are no propane leaks under the cabin or above floor.
For the price, the test gauge is well made and served its purpose as needed. It is a lot less costly than calling a plumber to do a pressure test and will save me $90 for not requiring a re-inspection.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2020I love it checked the pressure and leaks on my hotwater Heater line and everything was good 👌
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2014There are two things I'm looking for in a gas test gauge: no leaks, and consistency in the reading.
Well, a twist-open blow-off valve would be nice to have, but this isn't a wish list!
Anyhow, I put my faith in this product from Honeywell, and it didn't completely disappoint me.
The brass body is solid and threaded cleanly for a snug connection to a 3/4 inch nipple. The gauge is epoxied in, eliminating any chance of leakage. After the initial fill, once the gauge stabilizes, it stays pegged, unless there's system leakage, which is easily detectable thanks to the 0.5 PSI increments on the dial face.
I have two criticisms of the unit.
Most importantly, the gauge is large. Being mounted off to the side, it swings into the wall when installing onto pipe that's mounted laterally. It would be more practical to swap the gauge and valve positions.
Not so important, but inexcusable, is that the gauge reads 4 to 6 percent low. This isn't hugely important to the task at hand, but at 25 PSI indicated on this dial, my two digital gauges read 26.1 and 26.5 PSI -- and those devices both generally reflect what my car's sensors display. That's an error difficult to overlook on a dial face purporting to provide half-pound accuracy.
But no matter: if you've got a leak in your gas line, this gauge will let you know it, and there's very little chance it'll cause its own site loss. Likewise, if your gas line is airtight, it will give you a consistent reading (just not accurate) for days on end.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2019Came quick, easy to install and use. I guess it's accurate, don't have another gauge to compare. Would recommend and buy again (not that I would need to, this still works!). Easy to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2018Great product for my needs however make sure you check the threaded connections on product for leaks. Mine was leaking at the pressure gauge threads. Had to take out a apply new joint sealer. The picture shows how the leak when soap bubbles were applied.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2016Worked perfectly to pressure test my gas pipe. Since the pipe was outside of my house to the street, plumbers wouldn't pressure test it. Said they only do interior. This worked and so much cheaper!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2015[RANT ON]
Bad in the box. I screwed this onto the end of a pipeline and used a battery-driven compressor to air up to about 22 lbs, at which point the needle ceased to indicate increasing pressure. I checked for leaks and confirmed that my connections were tight, but I could feel air coming out of the circular dial housing. When I disassembled it to inspect, I found a deficient solder connection between the curved hollow copper arm and the central brass block. I didn't bother spending the time it would take to return it. I just went to the local Ace Hardware and paid the storefront price for a unit that worked. Maybe I can use the bad one or its parts in a welded sculpture some day.
These things are not complicated devices, but they need to be assembled attentively. If quality control is beyond the manufacturer's reach, they are cheap enough that the seller should offer them in two-packs. That would increase the odds that at least one of the units you get will perform as intended.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2015Just screw it on your pipe then use your car tire air compressor to pressure up your pipes (the gauge has the air valve included on it) and see if it holds the pressure. Just use 10-15 lbs MAX (too much can be bad) AND MAKE SURE you CLOSED all the GAS VALVES TO YOUR APPLIANCES BEFORE YOU DO THE TEST (the pressure may be too high for them, you ONLY test the pipes and your shut off valves, not the appliances). I saved about $500 with this $10 tool (the plumbers charge $525 for a gas test, UNBELIEVABLE but true). Google "HOW to do a GAS TEST", and there are several useful vedios on UTUBE.
