How can you rate a toilet seat? It either holds you or it doesn't.

Actually, there is more to even the common toilet seat. This one was well made. It was easy to install, even for me. And wonder of wonders, its color matched our 40 year old toilet, which I absolutely refuse to trade in for one of the so-called improved models.

The seat and lid are solid, have good hinges and mounting membranes, are made of wood, and balance on the toilet using four (not two) plastic bumpers. I am confident it will outlive me.

I am glad I found it, since harvest gold is not an available color in our local big-box stores. After so much success with Amazon over the past 15 years I have use it, I wonder why anyone goers anywhere else now. I should have started with Amazon when looking for this, instead of driving all over looking for a matching color. I found this in 5 minutes on Amazon.

As others have noted, this is a quality toilet seat; I particularly appreciate the four bumpers under the seat as opposed to two on the Bemis seat which it replaced. We replaced the Bemis seat because one of the bumpers shredded, with pieces sticking out. Another plus is that it comes with plastic screws and nuts, so you will never face corroded-on nuts when it is time to replace the seat.

Reviews on this page seem to cover a mix of colors, so I'll chime in for Harvest Gold. We found the seat noticeably darker than our commode. Not a big deal for us, since we've long since stopped expecting that Architectural Digest will do a feature on our 40-year old house, but it may matter to some. Ease of installation, comfort of the seat, features mentioned above and a solid feel all trump the lack of color match for us.

I needed a replacement seat for a yellow 70s toilet. Wasn't sure if it was Harvest Gold or the Citron Yellow. The Yellow looked a little too light and the gold perhaps not yellow enough. Decided on the Harvest Gold thinking it would look good even if the base was a little lighter in color. Low and behold it was a perfect match. I will disagree with some who say installing it is a breeze. That depends on how old the original nuts are. If they're "frozen" on it does take some doing to get them unscrewed. I couldn't have done it but my husband finally managed to get them off. We sprayed WD-40 on the old nuts and let it sit for a while. Fianlly got everything done and it looks great. It's a nice quality, sturdy seat that I'm sure will last for a very long time. I knew I could return it if it wasn't right because this particular color was sold and shipped by Amazon. Can't say that about all colors but this one yes.

I purchased this product in "citron yellow" to match the lemon yellow toilet installed when our house was build in 1961. Excellent choice for those looking to preserve orginal "mid-century modern" decor.

The color match was perfect, and the product appears to be well-made.

I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars to reflect a couple very minor complaints:

(1) the package comes with parts that are not shown or explained in the installation diagram and instructions. It comes with a choice of metal alignment inserts, which allow you to position the seat forward or backward half an inch or so. Of course, most people will be able to figure it out, but the part is not shown or mentioned on the assembly diagram. They give you 4 inserts, but you will use only two of them.

(2) there was a minor defect in the painted finish, but it shows only in reflected light and is not noticeable in the location in which I have it installed. It is not something I would bother returning the unit for, but it is not a perfect finish.

Overall it is an excellent value and I am happy with it.

(On a side note, I am amused that Amazon.com sent me a recommendation email today suggesting that I might need a harvest gold seat as well! The recommendation engine provides such an endless stream of amusement for those of us who are easily amused.)

After visiting several Home Depot and Lowes stores in Virginia, I fcould only find a dozen types/shades of white toilet seats and one blue, both wood and plastic, but no yellow seats at all. Ace hardware only carried white ones. Finding this "citron yellow" seat on Amazon for about $22 was a good buy (with no tax, and free shipping if your order was over $25), especially since it is wood, not plastic. The color match for my 1960's yellow American Standard toilet was amazingly perfect in color, fit, and paint finish. I had no problems installing this item in about 10 minutes, all hardware is included. This was one of those situations where everything worked out fine.
