Nice wood - terrible hinges
The seat looks very nice and I love the look of the wood. The wood is built up from three layers of bamboo, and one shortcoming on the wood is that the middle layer of bamboo on the seat contains several very light colored strips of bamboo which give it a bit of a checkerboard look from the side. The big problem with this seat is how loose the hinge joint is. The hinges have a lot of slop in them which allows the seat and top to move side to side a bit. Update Jan 2016: After over 2 1/2 years the wood and its finish still look great. The round tube in the middle part of the hinges started corroding after just a few months and is now well corroded. The plastic bumpers on the bottom of the seat have started to break and may not last much longer. Someday I hope to get around to replacing the hinges and the bumpers and then I should be able to get more life out of the rest of it.

    the tiolet seat was perfect but, the only thing i didn't like was the fact the it was missing a screw from it, which kept the bottom of the tiolet seat sliding, until i notice it was missing a screw, other than that it was perfect, the tiolet seat shines, and for it to be wood, very smooth and comfortable, would buy another if the need arise.

    I purchased this product despite the warnings and regret it. Although attractive, the seat was never very secure and slid side to side due to elongated flimsy hinges. After 18 months, the seat finally cracked all the way through. I would advise you to heed the warnings in the reviews of this product and purchase one with stronger and shorter hinges.

    definitely worth the money. a toilet seat actually gets used a lot, and after the old one I had was constantly coming loose, moved when in use, and felt flimsy, I wanted something solid. This one fits the bill. The seat hinges are secured over a back bar, so the seat whole hinge mechanism, which is what attaches to the toilet base, is very solid, and metal, so looks like it should last. The seat and lid are a nice heavy/thick bamboo material. It probably wouldn't fit all bathrooms, but I used left over bamboo flooring to mill the trim in my bathroom, so it was also a finishing fashion touch for me. The seat has good sized, properly placed "bumpers" so the seat feels stable when in use. The poly finish seems to be holding up well (have had it on for about a month). Overall, I am very happy with the seat in functionality and appearance.

    Update: now looking to replace this seat. Don't know how long a toilet seat should last, but the bumpers have been a nonstop problem. They are plastic and one came off, one was crushed from use and they aren't the same size as the replacement ones you can buy. The seat constantly loosened and now the plastic nuts that hold it on have cracked. Again, replacements at the hardware store don't fit. The washers were a soft rubber and allowed too much motion when the seat was in use, contributing to other issues. Almost unfortunately, the wood has held up great, bit I'm still going to have to replace this seat.

    I bought two of these. One had a screw come loose after eight months. The other cracked in half after two months. I weight 120 lbs, so it is not from being too heavy. I would have rated only one star because of the poor construction, but it is a very attractive seat so I gave it two.

    I ordered this seat in spite of the reviews bashing the hinge and the inability to tighten the seat enough because there were so many apparently valid positive reviews and the price was so right. I received the seat today in the elongated version and was able to tighten the bolts enough to prevent any side to side movement. There is a teeny bit of play in the hinge but I think that's a good thing since 1) the seat itself is a bit thinner than the expensive wood toilet seat this is replacing and 2) the lid has two bumpers instead of four and 3) the back two bumpers of the seat's four bumpers do not rest firmly on the toilet. The wood seat has enough give for the back bumpers to rest on the toilet when weight is applied. Too many super tight fittings could logically result in a chance of either the hardware or the seat cracking when substantial weight is applied...I wonder if that's the culprit for some of the negative reviews. Or maybe people are over-tightening the bolts. Or maybe toilet manufacturers differ slightly in their toilet rim surface and hole level.

    I did have to position the seat carefully and maintain that position with a little pressure while finish-tightening the bolts otherwise it wanted to seat itself a little too far to one side.

    The rattan bamboo finish is indeed beautiful. Can't believe I wrote that about a toilet seat. :D It's not the sturdiest wood seat we have but the quality seems very good for the price. I like the lacquer finish for preventing absorption of liquids.

    I can't tell if the hinge is metal or not...if it's plastic it's pretty darn sturdy plastic and an awfully good mimic. It did not attract a magnet but that only means it's not made of steel, iron, cobalt or nickel. Just in case, I saved the brass hinge from my old seat. The drill holes are in the same position for both seat and lid so it should work if this hinge breaks.

    Obviously I cannot comment on durability. I will try to remember to update this review after a few months.

    Have had 2 of these seats for a while now and I absolutely love them. The fit was perfect and the finish compliments the finish on the cabinets. I have not had any issues with the hardware (nickel finish)-only had to tighten a screw once so far. They are reasonably priced for the quality and they wipe up easily- I would recommend these to anyone looking to enhance the décor of their bathrooms.

    Pros:

    What all the other poor reviews have said.
    The hinges allow the seat to slide around when you sit on it, which is not a relaxing experience.
    And today, 2 1/2 months after purchasing and installing the seats, the bolt that secured one of them sheared off, and now I need to buy a new seat.
