Beautiful but would not work in my case

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2014I would have to say that toilet seats aren't really my thing, but this seat is well worth a review.
We have gone through many an oak wood toilet seat through the years and this particular one is in a class of it's own.
As soon as you open the box, you will be impressed with the beautiful, smooth "piano" finish. Some reviews claim this to be cheap looking, while I'm thinking just the opposite. Most of the cheap seats get one thin coat of clear then they are force dried and stuffed in a box. That's why they have a dull, rough finish with the wood grain showing through. Unless the factory has some super duper clear coat I have never seen, in order to get the "slick as glass" finish this seat has, I would assume they probably had to shoot a thick coat of clear, let it dry fully, sand it smooth and shoot it again.
The hardware is first rate, and most importantly the bottom of the seat has 4 heavy duty bumpers instead of the 2 chintzy bumpers all the cheap oak seats have. You know how the hinges are always loosening up on the cheap seats? This is why.... The extra bumpers allow the weight to be carried by the bumpers in the rear instead of the hinges. A huge plus for heavy loads.
As someone else noted in another review, I also wish the seat was a little longer in the front. It's just a touch too short. It fails to cover about the last 1/4" of my Toto brand bowl. It still looks OK, it's nothing hideous, and it's not anything to worry over, but if not for that I would call it perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2023As the case with many household products today, there are lots of choices for replacing toilet seats. We ordered this one back in 2009, and just replaced it with the newest version, now made in China. We have been delighted with the quality of both. These are not cheap seats, but they are worth it, and they stand far above the seats found in Home Depot and elsewhere. The wood is solid oak, the finish is a high gloss that is easy to clean, and the hinges are also of high quality brushed nickel in the version we ordered. The oak is a little lighter than used to be the case, and also lighter than what the photo on Amazon's site shows. However, the color is close enough to fit well with bathroom trim and cabinets. I should add that the packaging was very solid and protective of the seat, so there should be little risk of damage from shipment.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2023I have a fancy Kohler toilet that the seat attachment is hidden and inaccessible. To install a new seat, I would have to disconnect the water line ( no biggie ) , remove side covers to access the toilet floor connection ( a little scary) pull toilet up and off the floor flange. Then invert toilet (the tank is still bolted, or did I take it off, adding to the risk of disaster!?):The last is very scary because it's not the 100 year old technology wax ring but a proprietary Kohler PLASTIC thingie. Something that is SURE to break, cost an arm and a leg to replace, not stocked anywhere so special order only, and wait for months due to supply chain issues.
Oh, NOW I can access the underside of the toilet bottom to remove the old seat and replace.
Wow.
Can you fault me for chickening out and returning?
It broke my heart to send it back. It does really look well made.
Okay, and now I will clean the toilet. I really was waiting until after new seat was installed. Honest.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2012No problems with the quality of the wood seat itself (I haven't used it much yet!). It appears well made and looks beautiful. Be aware that it has a very high-gloss finish. The problem I have is with the hinge which is slightly oversized and therefore supports the rear half of the seat off the (Toto # CST744S) toilet rim, when it should be the "bumpers" on the seat itself supporting the seat. The front of the seat rests on the plastic "bumpers" as it should; the rear bumpers hang in space. The best solution in my opinion would be to slightly recess the hinge tabs into the seat. I called CS at Comfort Seats (supplier) who were very nice about the issue. They promise to send very thin washers to replace those originally supplied and possibly some more robust "bumpers". I will of course consider these solutions when they arrive (and try to remember to update this review!) but Comfort Seats should know that the customer shouldn't be obliged to make such repairs. It's advertised as a "Premium" seat and I paid $46.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2009The toliet seat seemed great on arrival in workmanship, beautiful wood finish, nice piece of oak, nickle plated hardware. Everything seemed all that I read about before ordering. But much to my dismay the hinge holding the seat in place on the outside broke within a few hours within a normal home setting. Now have to go through the process of making calls and returns when all that wanted was a product as advertised. Is the holiday too, close to a weekend. Don't envision getting a replacement anytime soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018I'm disappointed, the seat was comfortable and fit the bathroom decor well, but it broke after 18 months. I would have expected a solid wood Oak toilet seat at this price point to have lasted a bit longer. There is only one person living in my house so the seat doesn't get heavy use, so I can't recommend it.
