My first purchased light (purchased many years ago) wobbled a bit but because I liked the clean lines, I bought two more. When leaning over the first light to change a bulb, the entire base weight disintegrated into many parts: bits of plastic and some composite material everywhere. It was an old lamp and the two newer lights purchased a few years ago seemed to have a different weighted base. So I decided to buy two new lights to match the existing lights. I really like the functionality and unobtrusiveness of these lights so why the one-star review? The illustration and the INSTALLATION instructions clearly show a separate ring (F) to hold the glass shade on top of the socket assembly. No separate ring was included with either light. I called George Kovacs 800-307-3267 and Mac said he would get one of these lights and investigate and call me back within 24 hours. He did not. Studying my old lights, I deduced that the ring was already screwed into the socket assembly and by removing it, placing the glass shade, and reattaching the ring my assembly was complete. Make the instructions match the product and/or fix customer service at George Kovacs.

On final assembly it is not solid......wiggles when touched....but gives good soft light for ceiling and good reading light from below.

      Update 8/22/15:
Well, nine months have passed and I've downgraded my rating. The main problem is the wobbliness has worsened and the lamp now leans at an angle similar to the Tower of Pisa. Unable to adjust the flimsy screws at the bottom of the base which secures the poles in place because they have worn out on my second adjustment. What a shame since the lights work perfectly.

      Original Review:
The objective was to find a floor lamp with good lighting and a unique contemporary style, at a reasonable price. The search took 11 months...

(Please note that this lamp was purchased from AllModern, aka Wayfair).

      House Stark (The Good):

      - I have no overhead lighting in my bedroom, but this provides good lighting for a master size bedroom. Reading light is a plus. My package came with two 13W fluorescent bulbs (replaces standard 60W), although description says the white pups are not included. Also came with a 50W halogen bulb for use with the goosehead lamp (I replaced with a 50W equivalent 12W LED bulb).

      - The frosted glass lamp bowl is beautiful, with a wavy flickering flame design that adds a nice touch. It's almost as beautiful as Sansa.

      House Frey (The Bad):

      - Twin metal poles are inserted into two base slots, which are about 3/4 of an inch in height. Each are locked in with a mini-screw. Doesn't feel as solid as a metal pole you just twist into the base, but it's good enough (see below for further details). At least there's a bridge to hold them together.

      - Base came damaged, with one quarter of the side having multiple dents. The outer box was undamaged though, which left me baffled how that happened.

      House Lannister (The Ugly):

      - The installation wasn't bad, but trying to get this thing to stand up straight was a battle, which I believe was caused by aforementioned damage. The base has two slots, each with mini-screws on one side, to insert the two metal poles. One of the slots was inverted (and not entirely tightened, allowing you to rotate it) which at first I thought was normal. After fiddling around with the twisting and tightening of the two poles, I finally tried rotating the slot so that it's screw port faced the same direction as the other slot, and finally, the Kingslayer stood up straight! I hid the dents by looping the excess cord and tying against the base and pole with a TwistTail.

      - Cleaning the "disintegrating" styrofoam is a nightmare if you don't have a vacuum cleaner.

      - Basic picture instruction was ok, but I didn't realize the metal ring which you use to clamp the lamp bowl against the top fixture was already attached and just needed to be unscrewed. So after cleaning aforementioned styrofoam particles, I had to search the box again for this ring which wasn't there!!

      Iron Lamp (The Verdict):

      - I like it. The lamp provides an ample amount of light and a unique clean style. Despite the damage and pain, House Stark wins the Iron Lamp. Now we'll see how the durability holds up. Winter is coming...

The two biggest drawbacks to this lamp are the the goose-neck light, and general stability. The twin support poles will work themselves loose from the base plate very easily, resulting in an unstable lamp that twists and bends, and needs constant adjustment. While an annoyance, it is not nearly as frustrating as the tendency of the goose-neck lamp to wear through its wires and short out. I have seen this problem on at least four lamps, and have yet to find a method of repair that last longer than six months.
