I have always had a penchant for lamps on a curving gooseneck with an industrial look. I have many of them outdoors, but this one and another one like it (but silver finish globe) are really special. The base mounted on the wall is gear-shaped, which says “industrial” with a touch of whimsy. This is obviously not a lamp you expect to see mounted on an old warehouse down by the railroad station, but telegraphs you immediately that it’s a design meant to evoke that mood.
The underside of the metal globe is white, reminiscent of a porcelain finish. With LED bulbs, you can put any strength you want, as its rated for a large incandescent bulb which is 10 times hotter than LEDs. It uses a standard-base screw-in bulb, and I use LED bulbs with 150 watt equivalence.
People who see it always comment on how good it looks. I love the light it produces, and since the shade is opaque, it does not contribute as much to light-pollution outdoors. It puts light right where you intended when you installed it, and not up toward the sky. It feels lightweight but it’s been through the incredible rash of storms in the Midwest USA over the spring of 2019, and winds that have uprooted trees have not affected these lamps at all. I recommend it around doorways, especially. For an added touch, try Edison-style LED bulbs. They provide an antique look whether in daylight or when glowing at dark. Really, this is a beautiful design.
