In an attempt to rid our home (that was built back in the 80's) of the last vestiges of fluorescent lighting, we opted for this flush mount light in both our master closet and kitchen pantry and were thrilled with how much better it looked. In both spaces, we've found that 100W LED bright white bulbs do the best to illuminate the spaces and provide the brightness that was lost with the fluorescent lighting without the institutional green tinge. It works seamlessly with all the other brushed nickel fixtures throughout the house. I just wish I had swapped it out sooner!

Thank you SOOOO much to the reviewer who took the time to write out some installation tips for this item. If you are not very experienced with light fixture installations, this will make the job much easier.
. While I knew I could eventually figure it out with the VERY bad instructions from Minka Lavery, that reviewer saved me a lot of time. Thank you for the time you took to write a thorough explanation for the us. Here's what I can also add to your notes:
-I can add that I believe the 3 different holes on the mounting bracket are to accommodate the different size versions of this fixture. As you found out and wrote, the 13.5" diameter fixture uses the inner most hole for its long mounting screws. If anyone is looking at this and are installing the larger diameter fixture (16") I bet you will find that you will need to use the outer holes.
- To assist with threading the long mounting screws through the base, I modified your screwdriver feed idea. I stuck McDonalds wide straws on the end of the long mounting screws then used those to assist in aligning and feeding the base mounting screws through the insulation.

Nice weight to the fixture. And with the other reviewer's instructions and my add-ons, it certainly is an easy installation.

. While I knew I could eventually figure it out with the VERY bad instructions from Minka Lavery, that reviewer saved me a lot of time. Thank you for the time you took to write a thorough explanation for the us. Here's what I can also add to your notes:

Minka's has specifications at their web site, but when I link to them Amazon auto-rejects my review. That's pretty stupid, but let's just say it's the secure link to Minkagroup dot net slash images slash product underscore specs slash 4365-84 dot pdf. The instructions are a single page and are are not particularly well-written, so I will mention some things you might find useful.

The instructions that came with our unit differ a bit from the ones above. In the instructions we received, the washer and nut below the base H are items I and J. In the instructions on Minka Group's site, the letter "I" was omitted, and all the parts after that move down one letter in the alphabet. Neither version is completely accurate.

First off, the base (D) has four wires - two black and two white - rather than just two as shown. This is not a big deal as the two black wires are simply twisted together and connected to the black wire in the electrical box. Likewise for the white wires. You may find you need slightly bigger wire nuts than the ones included.

The instructions appear to show that screws B and C are the same lengths. That is not the case. The screws (B) used to mount the bracket (A) to the electrical box in the ceiling are much shorter than the ones used to mount the base (D) to the bracket (A). Swapping these would result in not having threads long enough to mount the base.

The instructions also don't show which holes to use for screws B and C. In my case, I used the "innermost" threaded holes for the base screws (C) and the slots for the screws (B) used to mount the bracket to the electrical box. When putting the screws for the base, screw them in just far enough into the threads in the bracket (A) so that they stay in place while mounting the base. These will be screwed down when the base is in place, but it is best to leave as much length as possible until they are through the base.

Getting the base mounting screws (C) through the insulation and the holes in the base (D) can be tricky. What I did was to use a Philips-head screwdriver with a long (6-8") shaft that I put through the larger part of one of the slotted holes in the base (D). Then I put the tip of the screwdriver into the screw head (C), held it firmly in place, and slid the base along the shaft until it mated with the screw. So long as I kept the base reasonably well aligned with the two screws, this made it easy to get the first screw home, and the second was fairly easy after that. Take care not to rip the fiberglass insulation in the base. (The thickness of the insulation is somewhat exaggerated in the instructions.)

Unlike what is shown in the instructions, the threaded nipple, G, is fully threaded now. The catch here is to install the nipple such that it extends enough that the nut (N) catches the threads, but not to extend it too far such that the nut doesn't snug up to the glass cover (H). I found that having it extend from about 4 1/4" - 4 1/2" from where it screws into the base (shown as E on the diagram) is about right depending on whether the electrical box is flush with the ceiling or recedes just a little. The point is that you may need to adjust the length slightly for each installation. I had to remove the glass cover (and the washer [J] and nut [K] that holds that on) several times to get each one right.

From some other reviews I read here, the lock washer and nut (J and K, respectively) may be a new addition. This is what fastens the glass to the base rather than the decorative knob (N) that is on the bottom. This may be in response to people overtightening the knob and cracking the glass cover. The upside is it makes mounting the knob easier, but the downside is this is an additional nut and washer to be removed when taking off the cover (e.g., to change one of the bulbs).

The end result was that these fit nicely snug to the ceiling. I thought they were slightly costly given how they are made and what's included, but not outrageously so. Most importantly, they look nice and give off a lot of light.

While the style of the light was beautiful and the quality was great, the color is not anything like pictured in the listing. It is a VERY orange-gold, not the more champagne-gold that you see in the picture. I wish I hadn’t had to return it because it was exactly what I wanted for our laundry room facelift, but the color just didn’t go, so we had to go with another fixture. I wish I’d taken a picture to post with my review, but packaged it back up immediately and sent back.
